TinkerCad Academy#6: Helping Combat COVID-19 with TinkerCAD
Objective
Design a tool to help combat the transmission of disease
Instructional Video
Transfer of Germs
The CDC or Center for Disease Control a.k.a. the people that handle sickness in the US recommends a few things to stop germs from spreading.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue,
then throw the tissue in the trash.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Clean and disinfect frequently
touched objects and surfaces.
Stay home when you are sick,
except to get medical care.
Wash your hands often with soap
and water for at least 20 seconds.
Video
Watch the video below to the 5 minute mark. He goes through his custom “Scritcher” that he has designed to combat the transmission of disease. He switches to another topic after 5 minutes so feel free to keep watching but the rest of the video will not be relevant to this lesson.
Discussion points:
Think about what you know about how germs transfer based on the CDC recommendations you read above. Now also think about how Devin from Make Anything came up with a 3D model that allowed him to complete the task of scratching your face while still following the rules. Think about activities you like to do that this would impact, this could be as small as opening a door and think about a way a 3D object could help you accomplish that task safely.
Once you have thought about a idea try and create that idea in TinkerCAD.
Examples:
If your having trouble thinking of ideas Thingiverse, a free library of 3D files, is holding a design contest for this as well and you can take a look at their designs by clicking here
I will be uploading any student files I receive to Thingiverse as well.
